You might remember that our flies last month revolved around the humble midge. And, in winter, it’s true that midges will usually catch you more fish. But if it’s big fish you’re after, you’ve got to throw some meat!

With that in mind, this month we’re featuring big, meaty streamer patterns and we’ll start with Mike’s Meal Ticket. Designed by fly tyer and guide Mike Schmidt, this pattern features a mix of bunny fur and wool, giving you plenty of body without too much weight. It works just as well for smallmouth as it does for trout. Here, Brian Wise of FlyFishingtheOzarks shows us how it’s done. (In awesome style, we might add!)
